Extracting information
In the production of the music video there was a lot of information sourcing and extracting that took place from which a sample is shown in the following images. This allowed me to have background information on what other artists use and how they create and produce music videos, this perspective from and artists and producers point of view enabled me to gain valuable insight into what goes on behind the scenes.
One magazine which I read was specifically about the artist Chiddy Bang, of which were are creating a music video for their track 'Opposite of Adults.' This included an interview of which I was able to learn more about them to allow us to create a video which has some of their input in a way so that we could be influenced by some of the things they had to say.
Extract from the Chiddy Bang interview from the previously shown magazine:
'The historical value is not really the important thing to focus on. What mix tapes do is allow the hip-hop community to create an informal medium for new music. By deeming something a ‘mix tape’, you’re basically saying ‘this music is unmixed, often unaltered, potentially with unclear samples’. But I’m not looking to sell this for a profit. I wish to create an organised listening experience, similar to an album, to give the listener an accurate portrait of my musical abilities.'
This magazine allowed me to gain an insight into some of the post production that goes into creating a music video, this allowed me know about some of the Drum layering and Mixing that this producer looks into when he creates a video and some of the troubles and benefits this technique includes.
I was able to gain an understanding of what the artist makes of his own music and the sort of music videos he has created for them. I can clearly see that he has a fun style to all of his videos with the bright colours and fun and fast pace to them, leaving them vibrant and uplifting to the audience.
Skim Reading
When reading chunks of words, note that the eye can actually span about four or five words on an average page. However, most readers don't use their peripheral vision to see words at the ends of each line. To overcome this, soften your gaze when you read by relaxing your face and expanding your gaze, you'll begin to see blocks of words instead of seeing each word as distinct unit. As you get good at this, your eyes will skip faster and faster across the page. When you get close to the end of the line, let your peripheral vision take over to see the last set of words. This way you can quickly scan across and down to the next line. You may not want to read some things quickly, even if you can. Fiction for example, is usually relatively easy to read quickly, but you can miss out on a lot of the nuance and beauty of the fiction writer's craft, even if you understand everything that's going on in a story.
When skim reading, you have to be sure to take frequent breaks. Your comprehension and focus will be better if you take a five-minute break every hour or half-hour.
An index card, bookmark, or other page-width item might help increase speed more than a finger. By obscuring surrounding text, a card prevents your eyes from wandering.
A great trick while using an index card is to put caret symbols every inch along your index card. This helps to read groups of words rather than individual words. As you improve use a new card with the carets further apart so you read more words in each burst.
